“Ghost Brothers” a new series, premiering on April 15th , at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Destination America’s, depicts three friends, Dalen Spratt (@dalenspratt), Juwan Mass (@juwanmass), and Marcus Harvey (@themarcusharvey) as ghost investigators. This time the black guys win and make it to the end of the program. They are on their way to uncovering whether some of the Southeast’s legendary “haunted” houses have supernatural spirits.
Just for the record a good ghost story has always been one of those things that people love. The unexplained experiences of other people makes for good viewing when attached to the paranormal or para-psychological. If, “Ghost Brothers” does anything but add some interesting ‘flavor’ to the space of paranormal reality-TV, then that’s welcomed. There’s got to be some ghosts on the other side that are of African American descent and have a story to tell…right?
“Ghost Brothers” Dalen, Juwan, and Marcus’ raised in religious backgrounds, know better than ‘foolin’ with spirits. Yet each is an enthusiast of the paranormal and blends some comedic relief, style, and swag into a space where fearful reactions rule; as they investigate spooky dark places.
To those who might think this show demolishes any “progress” in diversity, of which Destination America makes obvious by making this installment comedic in context, think again. To the target audience we (Black Folks) make it out the room; that’s funny and not stereotypical. More of an inside joke that we can appreciate. Why not make it funny. Bringing some levity to the situation is refreshing, rather than the regular use of the scientific unwatchable background typically seen on Destination America’s other paranormal reality –TV casts.
True friends off screen Dalen and Juwan are fashion designers with their own label called Loren Spratt (www.Lorenspratt.com ), and Marcus is a comedian and “Barber to the Stars” (www.THEBARBERSTAR.com).
